Abstract

Issues associated with Timorese culture are currently one of the most discussed topics in the areas of human sciences, as the country's identity has been lost, the culture exposed and, at the same time, questioning some traditions that demonstrate disharmony and dissatisfaction in society. Thus, this research investigates the cultural ceremony of the speakers of the Fataluco language in the administrative post of Tutuala, specifically seeking to identify the reasons, importance and negative consequences of the tradition. Therefore, it is an ethnographic research carried out through a qualitative, descriptive, exploratory and observational approach. The analysis data is the information acquired in the society and the obtained results reveal that the funeral ceremony is one of the main traditions in the Timorese society. Families are at the ceremony, however, evidently, as practices of this custom come from ancient cultural values, which determine the growth of civilizations, as it allows the strengthening of relations between families and citizens of a society.
